Temples

Page history last edited by mltherrien 15 years, 1 month ago

The Ancient Egyptians are well-known for building some of the largest and most magnificant structures ever erected. But many questions remain unanswered. How were these structures really built? Why did the Egyptians build these structures? While working within this section, keep the following questions in mind.

You should be able to describe all aspects of temples.  For example:

  • What is a temple?
  • Why were they important?
  • What did temples look like?
  • What was the inside of a temple like?

This website gives some interesting information on the different temples build for the many pharaohs of Ancent Egypt.

Check out this site for a list of Egyptian temples, where they are located, and for whom they were built.

Watch this video on the Luxor Temple, the video is from the Magical Egypt series with John Anthony West.

Your tasks:

Task #1:

  • Choose one of the temples you read about at the site above
  • Create a one-page representation of the temple including some photographs and a written description of the temple
  • You will need to explore other sources of information in order to find further details on the temple you chose
  • Remember to include a title and your name
  • See your teacher in order to print your finished page in colour

Task #2:

  • You are to create your own temple in honor of one of the ancient rulers of Egypt
  • Use the information from this site which shows the layout of a temple
  • Be sure to include two statues at the entrance of the worship area
  • Use the materials provided to create your temple
