In order to get a better understanding of the different types of materials for which the Egyptians traded go to this site and become an assistant to a jeweler. Your task is to travel up and down the Nile River collecting precious stones for making jewelry.

Your tasks:

Task #1:

In order to show your understanding of the geographical area of Ancient Egypt, you will be asked to complete a map of the area. Be sure to read the information below before you begin. Check with the teacher when you have made your choice to verify that you have made the best choice for your abilities. Check this website to help you find all the information for the map activity.

• You are to recreate a map of the Nile and the area of Ancient Egypt
• You have a choice as to how you do this
• You may:* Colour and label an existing map (fertile land in green, sand in yellow, water in blue)

                         * Draw your own map, colour and label it (colour as above)

                         * Work with a partner to create a 3-D map, using modelling clay and label it (Check                            out this website to see an example of a 3-D model. Click on "Children's Work -                            Geography           

• Your map is to include the NIle River and the Mediterranean Sea, Upper and Lower Egypt, the Delta areas and the main cities of Giza, Cairo, Saqqara, Dashur, Maidum, Thebes, Luxor, Aswan
• Be sure to give your map a title and to put your name on it
• All colouring is to be done in pencil crayon and all labeling in blue pen
• Underline all headings 

Task #2:

• Using the materials provided, you are to recreate a piece of jewelry worn by the Egyptians
• Use the pictures from the website of the jewelry maker
• Be sure you are able to model the piece you make (make it large enough to fit you)
• You must use the same coloured beads as the colours in the photograph
• When your jewelry is on display, have a written description beside it explaning what the piece is and what it was originally made of
